Our lightest bike ever

Lightness must be controlled. Making a lightweight frame is relatively simple, but making a lightweight one with top-level performance and ride quality requires a strong heritage.

Verticale SLR is the best example of what we have been and what we do best: a road bike that has improved the weight of Wilier 0 SLR, the previous climbing model from Wilier, by almost 10% (9.73% on the kit composed of frame, fork, handlebar, and seatpost).

1623 g for Verticale SLR, 1798 g for 0 SLR.

Lower weight, greater responsiveness, better performance.
Verticale SLR is now the best calling card for Wilier, the new generation of the best Italian bicycle manufacturers.

Excellent carbon

When we talk about a climbing frame, the first aspect we need to consider is the raw material used. The use of very high-quality composite materials is the starting point for creating a project completely dedicated to top-level performance.

For the Verticale SLR, specifically, we used 3 types of fibers produced by Toray, a leading Japanese multinational in carbon fiber production, particularly T800, T1100, and M46JB. The first two are characterized by very high tensile strength, while the latter is high modulus, to give the frame high torsional stiffness.

New integrated V Bar handlebar

The handlebar is made of monocoque carbon and has a completely new design, weighing approximately 310 grams.

The first thing that catches the eye is the special, variably-width shape of the bar. If we look at it from the front, the upper grip on the controls is narrower at the bottom. This shape was designed to provide concrete answers to the needs of professionals, who season after season seek optimal aerodynamic solutions that still comply with UCI rules.

The trend is to "go narrow" but still have a wider lower grip for better handling, a fundamental requirement during sprints. The overall delta between the upper and lower part is 30 mm.

V Bar, like the other monocoque handlebars in the Wilier catalog, is also compatible with other high-end models, and is available in 6 sizes, two with a width of 37/40 with stems of 90 and 100, four with a width of 39/42 with stems of 110, 120, 130 and 150 mm.

Cable routing

We have also worked on the upper part of the grip, particularly regarding the routing of the brake cables.
The contact surface has been increased to improve cable passage inside the handlebar.

Integrated cycling computer mount

The pursuit of overall handlebar weight reduction led us to develop a dedicated, all-aluminum support (stick) for the cycling computer, which, unlike previous versions, fully integrates into the handlebar.

It is secured by two through-holes, allowing us to further optimize weight compared to previous models.

Regarding the rear part, in the stem/fork steerer area, a different clamping system can be observed. The screws close on two aluminum inserts, a solution that facilitates easy replacement of the clamping part and improves the distribution of forces on the composite part.

To close the rear of the stem, a rubber insert prevents dirt and sweat from entering the handlebar, thus preserving its long-term reliability.

Seat post with integrated light or number

We have redesigned the seatpost with two possible setbacks: 0° and -15°, both equipped with two special holes for installing a rear light or for mounting race numbers.

New seatpost clamping system

We have pushed the clamping device to the extreme, so it no longer closes from above but diagonally.
This clamping system has allowed for a reduction in weight at that point of the frame compared to the 0 SLR.

New derailleur mount

Another major fundamental introduction is the front derailleur mount, which for Verticale SLR is no longer riveted to the frame and becomes repositionable.

This allowed us to reduce the weight of the mount and to have two possible configurations that allow for the installation of compact chainrings 50-34 or 53-39 in one case, and larger chainrings up to 55/56 teeth in the other, as requested by our World Tour Teams.

Shaped dropout

Regarding the rear triangle, we have a new rear dropout, designed with a special contoured shape that prevents rotation, thus ensuring greater reliability.

The interchangeable part is "cantilevered," which allows the chain to be significantly distanced from the chainstays and prevents any contact points between the chain and the chainstay.

Everything is compatible with wireless and semi-wireless groupsets.

Asymmetric fork

The challenge was to improve the weight and performance of a seemingly simple component. We maintained the characteristic asymmetrical shape.

The sections on the steerer where the brake caliper is housed are enlarged, while those of the right dropout are more slender and lighter.

A novelty is the skewed left fork blade. This shape is improved for two reasons: better orientation of the carbon fibers during lamination (to better respond to stresses), and greater resistance to the force exerted by the caliper during braking.

New racing geometries

The first major difference compared to the Wilier 0 SLR was the change in Reach: we focused on what primarily concerns the rider/cyclist, which is the positioning of the hands relative to the bottom bracket of the frame.

The result of this is a modification of the frame geometries and the handlebar. The bike's stack remained substantially unchanged, while the reach was slightly shortened for sizes XS and S, and extended for sizes XL and XXL compared to our classic geometries.

For the handlebar, we focused on positions C0 and C1, which are the most performance-oriented for the athlete. This allows us to have a product suitable (in terms of fitting) for every type of need and every type of rider.
