A fatbike (or fat bike) is an off-road or mountain bike with tires wider than normal, ranging from 3.8 inches or wider, and rims ranging from 2.6 inches or wider, usable at lower pressures to allow greater grip on difficult terrain, such as snow, sand, swamps, and mud. Frames are specially built with wider forks to allow the wider wheels to turn without friction. The wider wheels can be used at lower pressures, for example, less than 5 psi (0.34 bar), allowing for better grip and easier obstacle negotiation. A pressure of 8–10 psi (0.55–0.69 bar) is suitable for most people.
